Christian Johnson
Chief Executive Officer

Christian joined CWC as CEO 2017 after retiring as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Army.  He comes with the unique perspective of having been conceived in rape and exists today because of a pregnancy-help ministry that came along his mother’s side during a time of crisis. He says, “Were it not for my biological mother’s courage and the support she received, my adoptive family would not have had a son and brother, nor would my own two children exist today.  I believe God gave me this life story to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.”

Christian holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish Education from Liberty University and a Masters of Quality Systems Management from the National Graduate School.  His diverse professional experience includes sexual assault victim advocacy, strategic partnership development, marketing/advertising program management, family support programs, and high school teacher/coach which all uniquely prepared him for this position. Christian and his wife Amie have two adult children.

Sarah Dunford
Client Services Director

Sarah came to Choices Women’s Center as the Client Services Director in 2016. Her passion to help others facing the same difficult circumstances she once encountered was the driving force behind her decision to join the CWC team. Sarah became a mother at just sixteen years old and understands perfectly the struggles of being a teen mother, a single mother, and making a blended family thrive!

Sarah recently published her first book, Parenthood Unplanned: A Survival Guide for the Unexpected, to equip women facing the unplanned & unexpected with tools needed to survive and even thrive in difficult times.

A graduate of both Virginia Commonwealth University and Liberty University, Sarah credits the grace of God and good-hearted people willing to pour into the life of a young mother that inspired her to not only finish school but to help others just like her. Sarah and her husband have two children and a crazy dog. She loves reading, writing, and a beach. Not in that order. A few of her favorite things are travel photography and all things family.

Eva Ortiz
Clinical Director

Eva joined Choices this past January as our Clinical Director but has been involved in the ministry since 2015. Eva is married to her high school sweetheart Carlos for over 25 years. They were teenagers when they found themselves in an unplanned pregnancy, but with the assistance of a young parent’s program and the grace of God, they overcame the struggles. After the loss of their only son, she sensed a calling to help those who are conflicted in an unplanned pregnancy. She says, “It has helped me grow in faith and compassion. Each day is a new opportunity to be God’s hands and feet. To serve others who may not realize how much they are loved while remembering that only God can save. We are the sowers of the seed God has entrusted to us.”

Eva is an Army veteran and holds a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Religious Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University. She is also a licensed OB sonographer. She enjoys adventure-seeking, hiking, and working with Youth.

Gloria Whitley
Nurse Manager

In 1974, Gloria was the Nursing Supervisor for Rappahannock Health District where she referred several girls for an abortion. She later became radically pro-life and dedicated her life to the movement. Her favorite aspect of working at Choices is being able to share Jesus’ love, purpose, and plan for these babies’ lives. When asked how this experience has changed her, Gloria responded, “I am blessed to minister with so many lovely, passionate, Godly women. Their unique impact has increased my joy, made me more grateful, and encouraged me to aim higher. The clients also have demonstrated great strength and hope in the midst of tragic life circumstances. Even the clients who choose abortion renew my commitment to life. Seeing lives healed and changed gives me encouragement to see God’s grace on display. One of our consultants says, ‘When we do the difficult, God does the impossible’. When I am weary, burdened, or full of mistakes, I experience grace.”

Kirsten Pegram
Administrative Director

Kirsten was born and grew up right here in Fredericksburg, VA, with her eight other siblings. Kirsten has worked in administration in several office settings, including churches, doctor’s offices, and other non-profits, which she believes were all training for her dream job at CWC. Kirsten has always had a heart for serving families and standing up for biblical justice. She’s a graduate of Liberty University, and she volunteered at the pregnancy center in Raleigh, where she had been living for the last five years with her husband and trained as a Birth and Bereavement Doula. She believes that all life is God-given from the moment of conception until their final breath, and she loves CWC’s heart for glorifying Christ in every interaction with clients and pursuing life and abundant life through Christ. After years of infant loss, Kirsten adopted her gorgeous little girl in February and believes that this journey has prepared her to glorify Christ and love well in a way that only redemption through Christ can bring. Kirsten is a coffee and coffee mug lover and spends her free time crafting, reading, or with family and friends.

Machelle Edivan
Finance Manager

Machelle began working at Choices because she has a passion for babies and her heart aches for those who have abortions and struggle with the guilt. She says her favorite part of working at Choices is the people, and that the staff and volunteers truly care about the clients that walk through the door. Machelle finds working at the center to be a constant reminder of how great God is.

Machelle’s favorite activities include reading, scrapbooking, mission trips, spending time with her family and working with the youth group at church. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business, has been married for 26 years, and has four children. She and her husband are also foster parents.

Katie Hinton
Asst. Client Services Director

Katie Hinton was born and raised along with her 9 siblings surrounded by Indiana cornfields until her family moved to Fredericksburg in 1999. She is the middle child, which she believes is the best place to be in a large family. Katie volunteered with CWC as she had time in her high school years, which grew into weekly visits several years later and ultimately leading to joining the CWC team in a staff position by 2016. When not spoiling her nieces and nephews, Katie enjoys teaching at a local pottery studio and creating her own artwork, as well as staying involved in youth ministry. She welcomes donut deliveries, should any of our wonderful partners deem necessary.

Development Director

In 2011, they married and were commissioned to plant a new church in Centreville, VA. She and her husband, Brandon, have three children and are currently planting their second church in Fredericksburg, VA.

Brandon Hembree
Administrative Coordinator

Brandon Hambree joined Choices Women’s Center as the Administrative Coordinator.

Rachel Delao
Event Coordinator

Rachel joined Choices Women’s Center as the Event Coordinator during the summer of 2021. She has served and pioneered countless non-profits and churches since 2016. Serving in roles of church leadership, pioneering new outreaches to unreached people in the country, administration, overseeing community connection, and event coordinating. After graduating from Liberty University in 2019, with a bachelors in Youth Ministry, she spent a summer in Las Vegas interning for YWAM and a local church. On the streets of Vegas, the Lord placed a burden on her heart to see the very least of these touched and transformed by the loving kindness of Jesus. Shortly after, she moved  to Santa Barbara, CA to serve with a ministry that reaches the biggest party school in the country. There she lived on the front lines of open brokenness and spent countless nights ministering and connecting with broken hearts of the city. That time marked her and increased her burden to see this generation be awakened to the value of life. Her passion since then, has been to advocate for life, from conception until final breath and to see those alive in the hear and now stepping into their calling and anointing. Resulting, in not only the gift of life, but the joy of a purpose driven life.
